Carpenter’s Woods Spring Fest for Love Your Park Week

7:30 AM Bird Walk with Keith Russell, Audubon Pennsylvania Outreach Coordinator for Philadelphia
Meet at Wayne Ave entrance, Wayne Ave and W. Sedgwick St, Mt Airy. Look and listen for colorful migrants, including many warblers, and resident birds with expert birder, Keith Russell, while enjoying the pleasant woods of Philadelphia’s First Bird Sanctuary. Over 100 species of birds have been found in Carpenter’s Woods. Bring binoculars and a field guide, if you have them. Dress for the weather and walking in the woods.

9:00 AM Search for Amphibians and Reptiles with Bernard “Billy” Brown, Philadelphia Coordinator, Pennsylvania Amphibian and Reptile Survey
Meet at the Ellet kiosk, at the Ellet Trail trail intersection inside Carpenter’s Woods from the entrance at Ellet St. Wander the spring-fed stream and marsh in Carpenter’s Woods to find our toads, frogs, snakes, salamanders and other creatures in this fun, herpetological walk. Families are welcome. Bring a field guide, if you wish. Dress for the weather and walking in the woods, water, and mud.

10:00 AM The World of Trees with Ken LeRoy, ISA Certified Arborist PD-78, John B. Ward & Co. Tree Experts
Meet at the Ellet kiosk, at the Ellet Trail trail intersection inside Carpenter’s Woods from the entrance at Ellet St. Stroll through our pleasant, impressive woods filled with very old trees. Learn more about how to identify and care for these large plants and why they are so important to us, our health, and our environment. Bring a field guide, if you wish. Dress for the weather and walking in the woods.
